Food is art and art is my" bread & butter". When I was ten years old I built a model of the Taj Mahal instead of doing my homework. Since then art is my soul. I graduated Baroda University in India with BA degree in art and MA in traditional print techniques.
Culinary links embedded in my blood. My father was an organizer of events in the steel factory where he worked as an engineer. So from young age I learned to estimate how much rice is necessary to feed 250 people...
In 2001, after a year of volunteer service in Kibbutz Kfar Charov in The Golan Heights I received a scholarship from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Post Master degree in Art at Bezalel Academy. Since I needed extra income to live I started working at an Indian restaurant in Moshav (village) Even Sapir near Jerusalem. In this picturesque restaurant I gained experience in cooking for large scale events.
In 2005 I founded with my Israeli wife, Sigal "The Open House for Indian Culture". Every Thursday we opened our home in Jerusalem, for dinner of vegetarian Thali - a plate of rice, lentil sauce, vegetables dishes and authentic Indian breads. In the summer we host in our garden music, dance performances and lectures on Indian topics along with Indian food. People came also from out of town and often we hosted 60 people in one evening.
In 2010, the Jerusalem chapter was over and we located "The Open House for Indian Culture" in a small loft at Florentine neighborhood in TLV. We hosted intimate evenings and weekends Tali meals, gourmet meals for private events and continue to incorporate cultural activities with fine Indian food.
5 month ago we moved to a spacey apartment in the south of Yaffo. We have a roof pacing the beach and a big saloon covered with my big colorful canvas.
At the same time I'm organizing a grand opening events which serves a variety of Indian snacks and conduct Indian cooking workshops at our new house in Yaffo.
We had a lovely and very tasty dinner with Chanchil.
He is very Israeli but also have a warm place in his heart for India.
He prepared a spice mixture along with traditional dishes which make the food very oriental and specialty.
